Pokefind Breeding Guide

Pokemon breeding allows you use two of your Pokemon to produce an offspring. The purpose of doing this is to get Pokemon with higher IVs, preferred natures, and moves they otherwise can't have.

Pokefind imposes a few restrictions on breeding in order to balance it with how the server works.

  1. You cannot breed traded egged Pokemon of any kind.
  2. You can only breed with a maximum of one egged Pokemon.
  3. You cannot breed Shadow Pokemon.
  4. You cannot breed “fakemon”, including but not limited to Anniversaries and WoC Pokemon.
  5. You cannot trade bred Pokemon.
  6. Breeding with skinned Pokemon will not pass the skin down to the offspring.
  7. You CANNOT breed with Skinned Pokemon that are not your OT (Original Trainer). This means if you traded for the skinned Pokemon, you cannot breed with it.

Aside from these restrictions breeding works as it does in normal Pokemon games. A more comprehensive breeding mechanic guide can be found at Bulbapedia, we will just be covering the biggest points on this guide.

In order to start breeding two Pokemon you must visit one of the Breeding Center Locations and talk to the breeder npcs. They will allow you to select one male and one female Pokemon that have a compatible Pokemon Egg Groups. You can also breed using a Ditto to bypass the gender and Egg Group requirements all together. Breeding with a Ditto will always produce an offspring of the other Pokemon used to breed, as long as it can be bred normally. You cannot breed two Ditto together.

By paying 25 Tokens they will temporarily take those two Pokemon from you for one hour to have them produce an egg. Once that hour is up you can talk to one of the breeding npcs again to retrieve your two Pokemon and place your new egg in your Egg Incubator. From here you will need to walk/run/bike around until your egg hatches. You can check how many steps your egg has left before hatching by checking in your Egg Incubator.

Once the step count hits 0 your egg will hatch. The species of the Pokemon that hatches will always be that of the female Pokemon used to breed, unless a Ditto was used. A random nature, and three random IVs from the combination of both parents will be selected and passed down to the child, unless Breeding Items were used with the parents. If the parents had any Breeding Moves that can be passed down to the child, it will inherit those as well.

Breeding Pokemon together is also a way to get unique moves on a Pokemon that can't be learned in other ways. In order for a bred Pokemon to inherit moves from its parents some conditions have to be met.

  • Bred Pokemon by default will know all moves in their move list from level 5 and below.
  • If both parents currently know a move the bred Pokemon can learn by leveling up it will inherit it.
  • If either parents currently know a move in the bred Pokemons Egg Move list it will inherit them.

If the bred Pokemon would know more than 4 moves because of this the moves it will retain will be Egg Moves > Level Up Moves > Default Moves.

Skinned Pokemon can be taught egg moves at the Move Relearner. This is a good way to obtain moves that would normally require breeding multiple times to obtain. You can teach the skinned Pokemon the egg move you want to pass down and then breed it to have the baby inherit the move.

Breeding Pokemon without the use of a Breeding Item will always result in 3 random IVs from the parents 12 total IVs being passed down to the offspring. You can use Breeding Items to make this easier. Using one of the Power items will allow you to guarantee a single IV gets passed down. Whereas using a Destiny Knot will cause the parents to pass down 5 of their 12 combined IVs to the offspring instead of 3. You can use both a Power item and Destiny Knot to guarantee one of the 5 IVs is the one tied to the Power item.

Pokemon are broken down into different Egg Groups depending on their typing, and what their species resembles. Pokemon must be in the same egg group in order to breed with each other with the exception of Ditto, who can breed with anything not in the “No Eggs Discovered” group.
